Interactively Give a Toy with QR Codes this Christmas
November 24, 2011
eBay evokes our sensitive side of giving this Christmas with their ‘Give-A-Toy Store’ campaign.
The ‘Give-A-Toy Store allows you to donate a toy (between the value of $2 and $25) to a child in need from wherever you are in the world. The initiative kicked of with an interactive shop front in New York and San Franciso, which lets you donate a toy by using your mobile phone. The interactive shop windows provide a view into a kids Christmas paradise, complete with toys, trains, snow and just about everything else you’d expect from a Toy Store. Each toy has a QR code on it, that, when scanned from inside the eBay app allows you to instantly donate that toy (or at least the value of it) on the spot, which triggers the window to light up, or animate the teddy bear as he comes to life and rewards you for the donation. This action makes a typically passive experience of ‘window-shopping’ into an engaging and emotive one. Shop fronts are also never closed and therefore allow the donations to be made at any time of the day – and the ease and convenience will also make more people take part. Customers can also customize their own toys on eBay’s Facebook page, and for each completed toy, eBay will donate from $1 – $50,000 to Toys for Tots
